On November 15, 2025 (Saturday), I performed at bambooFesta Ube, held in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, in collaboration with Masaaki Aoyama, a jinashi shakuhachi (unlacquered bamboo flute) player.
bambooFesta is an event that explores bamboo from multiple perspectives—as a material, sound, and cultural medium—bringing together art, music, and handcraft practices in a cross-disciplinary setting.
In this performance, we experimented with highly improvised expression, using bamboo as our shared starting point, where sound and form emerged simultaneously in the space.
Although rooted in the same material, the differences in how bamboo was touched, sounded, and visually presented created a sense of tension and depth throughout the environment, allowing the audience to experience bamboo as a living, responsive presence.
