From December 13 (Saturday) to December 15 (Monday), 2025, I held the Beppu Bamboo Craft Tokyo Workshop in Sumida Ward, Tokyo.
This three-day workshop focused on the fundamental weaving techniques of Beppu bamboo craft, offering participants hands-on experience in touching bamboo, understanding its unique characteristics, and transforming the material into form through the making process.
While taking place in an urban setting, the workshop provided a rare opportunity to engage directly with bamboo techniques that have been cultivated in Beppu over generations.
Participants worked at their own pace, allowing each individual to deepen their understanding of the material while experiencing the quiet concentration and rhythm inherent in bamboo craft.
